FMC seeks to impact some of the world’s most pressing global challenges and raise awareness of these challenges to its employees, their families, and the communities in which they live. At FMC Campinas, the company’s commitment to cultivating communities and good health was shown in the participation of three FMC teams in the first Marathon of Campinas.
In 2014, a group of FMC employees at the Campinas, Brazil location, created a running and walking group to encourage physical fitness among the employees. The group is guided by a physical fitness trainer, who helps with the group’s long-term training. Recently, the group participated in the first Campinas Marathon. The group had three teams, a six-person, three-person, and double-relay team, run in the marathon.
Adriana Baffa, who is a Client Support Manager at FMC Campinas, organized the teams to participate in the marathon. Ms. Baffa commented on the event, saying, “I practice mountain running and triathlon, and I organized the FMC teams, which was really interesting since I could stimulate people to train and participate. About the First Marathon of Campinas, the results were better than the expected for everyone, as [team members’] mileage increased and time decreased.”
Another participant on FMC’s teams was Frank Oliveira, an HR Coordinator. “I have practiced mountain biking for awhile now, but I’ve never run before. After some comments on the marathon within FMC Campinas, I decided to apply and started training. Gradually, I improved my performance. On the event’s day, it was harder than I had imagined…But, in the end, I managed to reach my goal, and the whole team was great. We left the marathon very excited and some of us, including me, have already enrolled in another competition.”
Overall, the event was a great success, and it helps to continue to inspire other FMC Campinas employees. The running and walking group trains weekly at Taquaral Lake, in Campinas, which is near the FMC Campinas offices. With the help of the team’s physical fitness trainer, the group’s members will continue to participate in community competitions and work to encourage more employees at FMC Campinas to join the group.Back
